The Sutton Trust is pleased to announce a new partnership with XTX Markets.

XTX Markets, the global electronic liquidity provider, will be providing generous support for students studying maths on our UK Summer Schools.

Maths is a vital subject for studying subjects related to STEM but pupils attending disadvantaged schools are often disproportionately affected by the shortage of teacher sin the subject. In 2018, The Nuffield Foundation reported that A-level maths students in the most disadvantaged schools are almost twice as likely to have an inexperienced teacher as in the least disadvantaged schools (9.5% versus 5.3%). And in 2018, the Education Policy Institute (EPI) reported that 46% of maths teachers at Key Stage 4 do not have a maths degree.

XTX Markets will support students who are interested in studying maths at university by contributing to the Sutton Trust Summer Schools programme. This year we are offering 210 places for students to spend a week exploring a maths-related degree across 13 universities.

This partnership will further aid disadvantaged students by supporting new programmes, such as coaching and preparation for the specialist maths tests used by some leading universities.

Providing support at pre-university level for students from lower-income backgrounds helps to ensure a more socio-economically diverse pool of recruits at graduate level. We are looking forward to working with XTX Markets on this partnership.
