Please tell us what studies / activities you’re currently engaged in?
“I’m a final year business and mathematics student at Aston University. I’m predicted to graduate with a first and I’m currently in the progress of securing a graduate scheme, and I’m also an active member of Aston Panthers netball team. I completed my placement year at a bank called SMBC in London working within the corporate finance unit, and I have now been offered a graduate job with JP Morgan Chase to be a corporate analyst.”
Tell us a little bit about your background…
“I come from a working class background with neither of my parents attending university. I am one of ten children in a very competitive household, and I have always been a strong lover of maths.”
How did you hear about the programme?
“I heard about the programme through my sixth form. Knowing the positive impact of the pathways to law programme that had been a success in the year leading up to this, I knew banking and finance would be a get course for me. My passion for maths is what led me to want a career in the financial sector and completing this course cemented that.”
Did you know what you wanted to do for a career before university?
“I considered working in the financial sector before the programme, but upon completion, this idea had been cemented. I loved experiencing the different cultures within each firm, and deciphering which departments I wasn’t keen on working in.”
Can you tell us what you remember about your programme? What stands out?
“There was a time where we stayed a Warwick University for a few nights and met the individuals on the London banking and finance programme, and I still talk to two of them. It was a great way to meet likeminded people! Visiting a variety of financial institutions was extremely insightful and the level of networking was great. The programme surpassed my expectations, and I would definitely recommend it to individuals looking to explore work within this sector.”
Any other reflections or memories you’d like to share?
“Out of all the institutions we visited, Deloitte was my favourite. The employees who looked after us for the day were very down to earth and the presentation section was really useful. The day trip to London to meet with the students on the London programme was a great way to reconnect with the individuals we met during our few nights at Warwick.”
We collected Meadow’s story as part of our 25th celebrations in 2022, and it helps inspire the next generation of students to aim for careers they might never have thought of.
