We are pleased to announce a new career insight and bursary programme, in partnership with Bloomberg LP, the global business and financial information and news leader, exclusively for Sutton Trust alumni.
This programme forms part of our expansion of programmes to support alumni and represents a joint commitment to support young people to access the workplace.
With applications scheduled to open in mid-February, Sutton Trust alumni will be able to apply for a 12-month programme, starting in the Spring term of first year undergraduate study. The programme builds on Sutton Trust’s ongoing partnership with Bloomberg which launched the Sutton Trust Online platform, that to date has supported over 11,000 students with their university choices and applications, and skills-based mentoring focused on building capabilities required for early-level career success.
All selected students will:
- Have access to career insights opportunities at Bloomberg including workshops, mentoring, work experience and internships.
- Be able to access to a range of additional career development opportunities through Bloomberg’s network.
- Gain access to the core alumni digital offer, which includes access to sector insight workshops, skills sessions and interaction with other alumni, alongside a programme of activities including skill sessions run in collaboration with Bloomberg.
- Receive a bursary of up to £3000 plus travel and accommodation costs as required to support their participation and career development.
Research from the Trust in 2021 found that 1 in 5 working-class graduates could not afford to take up a work experience placement during university. Work experience placements – whilst crucial for soft skills and career development – have become increasingly costly, a fact that has been exacerbated by the impacts of the pandemic. Sutton Trust and Bloomberg are committed to a future where social and economic circumstances do not define career opportunities: this new programme will be a valuable addition to the offering available to alumni.
Caroline Rowley said: “Access to career development opportunities such as conferences, industry mentors and work placements can help young people to gain valuable insights into the workplace. At Bloomberg, we’ve seen the benefits that apprenticeships and early-stage professional opportunities can bring, both for those taking part and for our business. We’re proud to build on the success of Sutton Trust Online and look forwarding to collaborating with bursary recipients to build their confidence, enhance their skills, increase their networks and provide valuable experience for successful and rewarding careers.”
Eligible students will receive information from the Sutton Trust when applications are open, and information will also be found on the alumni homepage.
