In the Social Mobility Action Plan, launched today by Secretary of State Justine Greening, the Department for Education launched a £23m Future Talent Fund, a policy Sutton Trust has long called for.

In her launch speech, Justine Greening said:

“And for those bright children from less well off backgrounds who need a bit of extra help to fulfil their potential, I’m announcing a £23 million Future Talent programme, something I know the Sutton Trust has called for, for some time.”

This echo’s our policy recommendation outlined in our 2017 Mobility Manifesto:

The Sutton Trust call for the government to develop an effective national programme for highly able state school pupils, with ring-fenced funding to support evidence based activities and tracking of pupils’ progress.
