Secondary schools that were among the fastest to adopt Michael Gove’s reforms when he was education secretary have had a vast increase in pupils taking traditional subjects, a report by the Sutton Trust says. The 300 schools that quickly introduced the English Baccalaureate – a suite of GCSEs comprising English, maths and two sciences, a humanities and a foreign language – saw uptake of these subjects rise from 8 percent to 48 percent in only 3 years.
