Employers support ban on unpaid internships as working-class graduates lose out on growing route into careers

Writing for The Financial Times, Michael Skapinker referenced the Sutton Trust’s apprenticeships report in a comment piece on university education.
“All officers ‘should have degrees’,” was the BBC headline. An adviser to the College of Policing, which sets standards for police training in England and Wales, said: “We are looking to have degree-level qualifications for constable and masters for superintendent.”

A recent report by the Sutton Trust showed that those who had been through well-run apprenticeships out-earned graduates of middle-ranking UK universities.
